Veerle Pashley (°1983) has a Master’s degree in Criminological Sciences and a Bachelor’s degree in Educational sciences. She has an academic assistant position at Ghent University (private security - criminology). Her joint PhD research focusses on corporate military ethics over the private military security complex. Her research consists of a joint PhD (Ghent University, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Royal Military Academy) in criminology and social military sciences. She is a board member of the Belgian Intelligence Studies Centre (BISC) and the Criminologist Association of Private Security (CAPS). She is also editor of the “Cahiers Inlichtingenstudies – Cahiers d’études de Renseignement – Journal of Intelligence Studies”. Her main area of research is private security, private military security and intelligence studies.

Research activities

  • The “Private Military Security Complex”: a normative framework of corporate level military ethics (PhD Ghent University, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the Royal Military Academy, 2014 - ).
