Prof. Dr. Wim Hardyns is lecturer of Criminology at the Department of Criminology, Criminal Law and Social Law at Ghent University and guest lecturer of Safety Sciences at the Faculty of Law at Antwerp University. He is member of the Institute of International Research on Criminal Policy (IRCP) since June 2015. Wim Hardyns holds a PhD in Criminology and has a Master’s degree in Criminology and Business Economics. During his academic career, Wim Hardyns has built up a broad expertise and is specialized in the following fields: quantitative methods and techniques, survey methodology, crime mapping and statistics, theory-testing research, urbanization and fear of crime, victimization and offending, social cohesion, crime prevention, sport-related crime, sociology of law, new security technologies, big data, violent youth groups and radicalization.

With reference to these topics, he has published numerous articles (and contributions to books) in national and international peer-reviewed journals and series and he is/has been promotor of several research projects. Wim Hardyns is President of the Deelredactie Criminografie & Methodologie of Panopticon, Assistant Editor of the European Journal of Policing Studies (EJPS) and is member of the Editorial Board of Cahiers Politiestudies, Orde van de Dag, Reeks Veiligheidsstudies and Het Groene Gras. Besides this, he is Secretary of the Flemish Society of Criminology (Vlaamse Vereniging voor Criminologie), member of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Policing and Security (CPS) and member of the Board of Directors of Panopticon vzw.
