Gwen Herkes (1990) is an academic assistant at the Department of Criminology, Penal Law and Social Law of the Faculty of Law, Ghent University and a member of the Institute of International Research on Criminal Policy (IRCP) since May 2015. She holds a Master in Criminology (Ghent University, 2012) and a Masters in Business Economics - Management of Governmental Organisations (Ghent University, 2016). As an academic assistant, Gwen is responsible for the courses 'Criminal Justice Criminology' and 'Advanced Criminal Law'. Her main areas of interest relate to criminal policy, victimization, migration and gender-based violence. Her doctoral research focuses on victimization in a context of migration and human smuggling. Her previous professional experience was at the Belgian Institute for the Equality of Women and Men (2013-2015).
